| WILLIAM RICKARBY MILLER (1818-1893) | ||
| Born May 20, 1818 in Staindrop , County
Durham (England). Probably trained by his artist
father, Joseph Miller.
Emigrated to America in the winter of 1844-45; after a brief stay in Buffalo, Miller made his home in New York City until his death. He produced hundreds of American views in both watercolor and oil as well as many illustrations for books and periodicals. Many of his works can be viewed at The New York Historical Society. He was a member of The National Academy of Design; The American Academy; and The American Art Union. He exhibited at The National Academy of Design (1861-76) and The Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts. |
